Organ Pharming

Pharming is blend of two words: ‘farming’ and ‘pharmaceutical’. Organ pharming is the process of using genetically modified livestock such as cows, goats, pigs and chickens to grow organs that can be useful to human beings.

The process of organ pharming begins by injecting embryos of animals with the genes of human beings. Due to their altered genetic structure, these animals have organs similar to those of human beings.

When they grow older, their organs are ‘harvested’ and transplanted to the bodies of humans who need them.
