Kakapo
The kakapo or the owl parrot is one of the strangest and rarest
nocturnal parrots in the world. The bird also does not fly, but happens to be
one of the longest-living birds.
It has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc of
sensory, vibrissa-like feathers,
a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, and wings and a tail of relatively
short length. A combination of traits make it unique among its kind; it is the
world's only flightless parrot, the heaviest parrot, nocturnal, herbivorous.
kakapos are also very
heavy and large, reaching a weight of about 7.7 pounds and a height of about 24
inches. Kakapos are common in New Zealand, and they are known to be extremely
smart animals, getting attached to people who are kind to it.
